Food Trip #9: YuYu Cafe & Dessert Shop

Visiting Tagum City was a pleasant experience

I didn’t realize that it has undergone a lot of positive developments

Once known as THAT town you pass through before reaching Davao

It has now grown into a busy hub of business and economic activities

I was there together with RJ, Gwyn and Peter to check out the area

We decided to have our late lunch in YuYu Cafe and Dessert Shop

Thanks to Gilbert Tan for suggesting this because it was indeed worth the visit

I ordered their baby back ribs glazed in barbecue sauce (210.00)

I find the pork ribs tender and tasty to the bones

I just thought that the sweet corn sidings was too sour

RJ ordered the Sausage and Mash (185.00) and chose Hungarian over Frankfurter

I took a bite of the Hungarian Sausage which was pan-seared to perfection

The Mashed Potatoes was a perfect match – it smelled and tasted muy delicioso

Peter must have had his fill of the Coco Chicken (190.00) because he had a satisfied smile afterwards

This is basically native chicken braised in coconut and spices

I took a bite and indeed it made for one superb dish

Gwyn opted for their Spaghetti Bolognese (135.00) with a slice of herb focaccia

As a pasta lover, I made sure that I tasted their spaghetti

Their meat sauce was perfectly seasoned with herbs, garlic and parmesan cheese

This might not click with kids and the Filipino palate but I rate it high in my list

For dessert, we tried the Praline Cake (98.00)

This is a chocolate sponge cake and milk chocolate hazelnut mousse

Its crunchy hazelnut base alone makes it a must-order

Nothing fancy about their Blueberry Cheesecake (80.00)

But what I liked about it is the balanced sweetness and sourness

Of the blueberry toppings, cheesecake and bottom crust

The Mango Charlotte Cake (65.00) needed some boost

This is a pudding-like torte surrounded by ladyfinger cookies

Nothing to gloat about this cake because it tasted like your ordinary chiffon cake

The Fruit Tart (58.00) is another winner

I loved the crisp buttery crust which was filled with vanilla bean pastry cream

Its fresh fruits toppings gave it the added zest

YuYu Cafe and Dessert Shop is located along National Highway, in between Jollibee and Chow King.  They are open  Monday to Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm and Friday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 1:00 am.  I find the place very cozy and comfortable.  Service was A-okay. They offer free WiFi connection too.  For inquiries and reservations, you may contact them at (084)-218-8380 or their email address [email protected]
