500 Peso Challenge #3: Rec-San BBQ

Our gang of three decided to pursue our next quest for the 500 peso challenge

Ernan and Peter have been edging me to try this famous barbeque place in Gensan

My busy schedule have caused us to postpone this many times until two nights ago

Rec-San’s BBQ is a no-nonsense eatery converted as such from a residential house

We were there around 6:30 pm and only a few tables were vacant

I reminded Ernan about the 500-peso limitation and he just grinned wickedly

For starters, we ordered Tuna Kinilaw (20.00)

I was surprised to see their  serving looking and smelling fresh

I was doubly pleased when I tried it because it felt more like eating a 20-dollar feast

Their kinilaw mixture was just right but you may opt to put in “siling labuyo”

We also ordered the Pork Barbeque (3.50 per stick)

This could well be the common man’s budget meal

The good thing about their pork skewer is its generous slices

And it does taste good too – tender and mildly marinated

If I had my way, I would have ordered more Pork Chorizo (8.00 per stick)

I consider this my “contra-umay” and comfort food

Was sure glad to discover that this one didn’t disappoint

Just the thought of it now makes me salivate

I’m not a big fan of Chicken Liver (5.00 per stick)

But when grilled (or cooked) properly then I’m good to go

Rec-San’s version was not over-cooked so it remained soft and juicy

The marinade sauce spelled the difference so it made for one tasty meal

Their Pinaputok na Bagaybay (70.00) was new to me

Although it tasted good, I still find the cooked bagaybay repulsive

It looked like an aborted fetus, that’s why

Anyway, this one’s tender to the bite and quite tasty

Rec-San BBQ is located at the corner of Santos and C.M. Recto Streets.  They’re open everyday from 5:00 pm until supply lasts.  Come early for dinner to get a table.  Take-outs are most appreciated.  For this challenge, I spent 292.00 pesos only which is way below our 500.00 peso-challenge.
