Most Pinoys love a hearty meal
A one-viand meal is a no-no
There has to be at least two different “ulams” to boot
Anything more than that is considered a premium
Especially so when that extra treat is as good as this appetizer
Mamang Puring’s Atchara is a labor of love and hardwork
It started in a little kitchen in Barangay Ligaya
Given away as gift to friends it slowly gained popularity
Mamang Puring is the mother of my former co-employee Leah Cunanan
I used to give my two-centavo worth of comments about it
And Leah made sure that their atchara was improved to perfection
When Leah married Geov, a Marketing specialist, the rest they say is history
Still homemade, the “lowly” atchara was “re-engineered” to what it is now
Packaged as a worthy pasalubong in a tetra-packed plastic
One pack at 35 pesos is indeed a steal
Now it tastes even better — with more kick and more wallop
The papaya shreds doesn’t taste slimy at all
Its other pickled ingredients of carrots, onions, red bell pepper, pineapple and raisins
Which are generously part of the package complemented the papaya shreds
Its sweet and sourness goes very well with any fried viand you’re having
It was so yummy that I consumed one pack in one sitting
Again, this goes well with anything fried or grilled — ANYTHING!
